Auto Transport MissouriWith a population of just over 6 million people Missouri stands as the 18th most populous state in the U.S., and it also is the 21st largest state in the Union in terms of total area – this makes it rank 30th in the U.S. in terms of population density. Though it was first organized as a territory following the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, it was admitted as a state in 1821 and is the home of St. Louis, which was the origination city for both the Pony Express and the Oregon Trail, and was considered to be the edge of civilization during the expansion westward in the 19th century.

Missouri’s economy has long been based on agriculture, though during the latter half of the 20th century the state’s economy began to shift more toward retail and other economic sectors. Though diversification of an economy is ultimately good for the economy, the state’s image has been completely revamped over the past century or two. New sectors to the state include aerospace, printing and publishing, though there are still many economic sectors that have long-standing roots in the state, especially agriculture – crops such as corn, hay, soybeans, and livestock such as beef, pork and poultry still account for much of the state’s GDP.

With its roots in the transportation and logistics sectors dating back to the turn of the 19th century, Missouri is a major interstate transportation hub even today. Both St. Louis and Kansas City are major logistics cities and it is mainly because of this that Missouri has so many interstate highways. I-29, I-35, I-49, I-55 and I-57 all run through various parts of the state in a relatively north-south route, while I-44, I-64, I-70 and I-72 all run in east-west orientations. Auto transportation is relatively cheap because of the many routes through Missouri; it is not surprising that many auto transport companies are based in the state. With so many interstate highways it is easier for auto transporters to reach smaller cities that are still connected to the system, unlike other states which have few interstates and fewer cities connected to them.

Auto transport is also cheaper because the weather, on the whole, is relatively nice throughout the year. Summer highs typically get into the mid-to-upper 80’s during the day, and while snow can accumulate in the northern regions of the state come winter it is usually in higher elevations and snow tends to stay away from many of the major interstate routes that shippers will use. Winter months also tend to bring great deals when you’re shipping to and from, especially around the holidays when shippers want to be back home with their families.
